Did you know that Doritos originated from a small Mexican restaurant called “Casa de Fritos” at Disneyland in Anaheim, California? You heard that right!

However, it did not begin as the cheesy nacho chips most of us recognize today.

Supposedly, an employee from the tortilla supplier noticed a large number of tortillas being wasted and proposed they be cut, fried and served as a snack.

Inspiration came from a traditional Mexican snack known as totopo.

Arch West, Frito-Lay’s vice president at the time, caught sight of the snack’s popularity and decided to produce it in mass quantities.

The original chips were launched in 1964, and the cheese flavour was only introduced in 1974. It was the first tortilla chip to be launched nationally in the United States.
